This is pretty awesome.

It has been a while since I posted here last. But this Halloween is going to be a very special one. It made me remember an article I posted online a LONG time ago (2003) on the original ACE and other sites. Since this new website hasn't had it restored, I figured now was the perfect time to dig it up and share it with you all.
The American holiday of Halloween seems to be under a constant wave of negative attacks. It has a long and interesting history with Christian and Pagan origins. But in this country it barely stands for the original purpose in both religions, which is to honor the dead. Today it seems nothing more than a chance for hyperactive children to dress up in costumes, from the humorous to the horrific, in order to justify their begging of candy from strangers.

there is a grand CONSPIRACY afoot. you have been taught to believe that you are UNIQUE, one of a kind. THIS IS NOT TRUE. long ago, a cabal of scientists created technologies to ensure that ANYONE'S MIND AND BODY can be duplicated.

If you want safe alternatives to Trick-Or-Treating because you are worried about candy and strangers, then host a party. Or go to a church and find a Family Festival. There will be many Harvest Carnivals, County and State Fairs. Enjoy them all. But don't just hide at home. Don't let the fear-mongers win. Halloween is not about being scared. Hollywood may have capitalized on the genre, but that isn't what Halloween is about. It is about veneration of our loved ones and ancestors. It is to remember who we are and where we've come from. Hold our traditions dear, for they are our history. Dispel your misconceptions.
On the original ACE forums I had two distinct forums for me to prattle on my own thoughts. With Drupal and my own blog here, I figure this is probably the best place for both. The first was "Deep Thoughts", which was very much like a blog, in that I laid bare my ponderances and wondering and tried to give food for thought. The other was "Past Sermons", where I didn't preach from a pulpit but I opened my thoughts to more essay-worthy issues.
Sadly, in both cases, the forums are lost, and my thoughts have gone to the great BBS in the Sky.
So, here it is, February 2008, and the Aquarius Church of Enlightenment is reborn. The tale of ACE is long and better left for another time. However, suffice it to say for now that this is an idea that was born in 2001 after the September 11th attacks. The goal is to support the notion of religious tolerance in America and beyond.
I can always count on Brother Falwell to give me a laugh. Not a hearty, knee-slapping witty laugh, but a "what the heck was he thinking" kind of comic relief. My latest LOL-attack came from his response to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recent decision about the Pledge of Allegiance.
The song starts with a heavy, saddened sigh. Then a single acoustic guitar plays that singular back melody. The singer begins as you know you’ve felt the same way as him, too many times. He sings the truth:
HEADLINE: DEVIL’S ADVOCATE DEFENDS EXISTENCE OF GOD(S) ON ATHEIST WEBSITE
"Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites."
- Thomas Jefferson, 1781
